Step Afrika!
the Movie
Step Afrika!, a ninety-minute feature documentary, captures the artistry of Step Afrika!, the first professional dance company to devote itself entirely to step...and the first to use the dance form to empower its audiences through outreach and education. Through revealing portraits of public school kids who learn stepping and who come to believe in their own power to reach for their dreams, especially the dream of going to college, Step Afrika! proves onscreen that arts education and outreach do make a difference in the lives of disadvantaged and under served children and youth. In Step Afrika!, the dancers use their own personal collegiate experiences as a vehicle to communicate about education in the classroom and on the stage. Almost automatically, education becomes a goal that seems attainable and worthwhile.
